TEACHING NOTES
Be honest. Who else feels distracted right now?
The devil doesn’t need to destroy you if he can distract you.
Diminish the distractions that pull you away from Jesus.
What scares you? The distraction of fear freezes those who participate in it.
We are called to be a servant of God, not of man. No apologies. No compromises.
Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.
Good is the enemy of **great.
TALK IT OVER
INTRODUCTION
Our lives as Christ followers are full of distractions. Distractions that can pull us away from where our true focus needs to be, our authentic relationship with Jesus. Our day to day activities can fill our plates to the point of tipping, and leave us falling short in taking time from our schedules to re align with God. Fortunately like all of our other problems the Bible can help us regain our focus and drive to say no more often, close our laptops, or step away from our fears
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
1. What is a goal that is important to you?
2. What is something that distracts you from making progress?
3. How do you think you handle your fears?
4. Have you ever known someone who seemed very focused? How did they do it>
5. What distractions do you want to limit? Which do you want to eliminate? How will you accomplish this?
MOVING FORWARD
So many times in the Bible we read about Jesus walking out to be alone. He wasn’t trying to avoid problems in these moments, he was making time in his schedule to ensure his focus stayed on The Father and His plan. We are able to model Jesus in the same way with our schedules. When new opportunities to fill our calendars pop up, we can ask ourselves “Is this going to help or hurt my relationship with God?” If the answer is no, then we can embrace the “no” and save room for the best future. Good is the enemy of great, say no to the good so we are able to make room for the best!
CHANGING YOUR MIND
…Set your gaze on the path before you. With fixed purpose, looking straight ahead, ignore life’s distractions. Watch where you’re going! Stick to the path of truth, and the road will be safe and smooth before you. Don’t allow yourself to be sidetracked for even a moment or take the detour that leads to darkness.
