Everyday Jesus: Everyday Jesus is a great way to deepen your Bible reading, prayer life & personal time with Christ.
• Monday: Read Jeremiah 36 & 45, Hebrews 4:12-13 Baruch was responsible for taking the words the Lord spoke to Jeremiah & writing them down. He also had to go & read God’s word first to the officials, then to king Jehoiakim, which put him in danger of being killed. The emotional weight pushed real feelings of: woe, sorrow on top of pain, weariness & unrelenting discomfort, out of Baruch. Today ask the Lord to reveal the truth of your own emotions to you, through His word.
• Tuesday: Read Jeremiah 45 & Isaiah 55. God’s word of encouragement to Baruch was that what He built and planted He is breaking down & plucking up. These 2 statements of v4 underscore the sovereign authority of God in every-thing. Without receiving God’s view what we see overwhelms us. To God “it” has purpose to show God’s power [burned scroll, restored by God - 36:3, 7,16, 27-28, 32]. Today, in what doesn’t make sense, ask God to deepen your view & therefore find strength in the presence of your real feelings.
• Wednesday: {Day of Fasting} Read Jeremiah 45 In v5 Baruch is asked if he is seeking great things for himself. We have a tendency to set such high value on our plans and desires that we miss our point to God. Spend time seeking and asking Lord what great things you are to seek in life. You may want to incorporate sentiment to the effect of, “Lord, I don’t want to spend a minute seeking things that don’t align with your plan”.
• Thursday: Read Jeremiah 45. Still thinking of v5, let ‘s read Psalms 131 and meditate on David’s words of humility, dependence and hope in the Lord.
• Friday: Read Jeremiah 45 Different than Baruch’s expectation of God, his life would be the prize of his war. What caused Baruch pain was also where God was using him most. The preciousness of life is itself your great prize. As you pray over this 5th verse, may God redirect your perspective of the value and point of God allowing you to survive and remain useable to His great, greater purpose to draw all people to Him.
