Use the following questions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.
Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose
· Share your conversion story. When and how did you start following Jesus? What challenges did you face in making the decision to follow Him?
Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters
· The conversion of Saul is told in three places in Acts (compare with the stories in Acts 22
and Acts 26). Why did Luke invest so much effort in telling this story?
· What qualities or personality traits of Saul can you deduce from his actions as you read
Acts 9? How could God redeem those qualities and use them in spreading the good news of Jesus?
· What qualities or personality traits of your own has God redeemed and used to grow and build the church?
· What would Saul need to give up in order to follow this call? What are some of the sacrifices we must make in order to follow the call of Jesus?
· How would you have reacted if you were in Ananias’ shoes? Why is his hesitation understandable?
· What is the specific call for Saul? Who is his target audience? Why will following God’s plan count as “suffering”? (See 2 Corinthians 11:16ff) How does Paul ultimately feel about his sufferings (see 2 Cor 11:9-10)?
· What has the church gained from the obedience of both Ananias and Saul? How would church be different if they had refused God’s plan?
· How do Saul and Ananias demonstrate unity? Do we pursue unity in the church today? Explain your answer.
Prayer – Taking Your Thoughts to God
· Pray for those who hear the gospel, that they would turn to God and obey as quickly as Saul and Ananias.
