Romans (Part 27) - God’s Gift To Humanity

[Romans 10:1-4 ESV] 1 Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.

CHRIST IS GOD’S WAY OF SALVATION

THE (Vss. 5-10)

[Romans 10:5 ESV] 5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them.

[Leviticus 18:5 ESV] 5 You shall therefore keep my statutes and my rules; if a person does them, he shall live by them: I am the LORD.

[Romans 7:10 ESV] 10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.

[Romans 10:6-8 ESV] 6 But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 “or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);

[Deuteronomy 30:11-14 ESV] 11 “For this commandment that I command you today is not too hard for you, neither is it far off. 12 It is not in heaven, that you should say, ‘Who will ascend to heaven for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 13 Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, ‘Who will go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it?’ 14 But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it.

[Romans 10:9-10 ESV] 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

[Matthew 12:34 ESV] 34 … For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

[Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV] 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

THE (Vss. 11-13)

[Romans 10:11-13 ESV] 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

[Isaiah 28:16 ESV] 16 therefore thus says the Lord GOD, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’

[Joel 2:32 ESV] 32 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved…

THE (Vss. 14-16)

[Romans 10:14-16 ESV] 14 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?”

Sent - Preach - Hear - Believe - Call

[Matthew 28:19-20 ESV] 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

ARE NECESSARY

[Isaiah 52:7 ESV] 7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.”

[Isaiah 53:1 ESV] 1 Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?

[Romans 10:16 ESV] 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel…

[Romans 10:17 ESV] 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
