Passage: Ephesians 6:4
Read: Colossians 3:12-21

  1. Read Ephesians 6 and summarize the passage for the group. Tell everyone how it fits into the surrounding verses and the rest of the Book of Ephesians as a whole.
  2. For those who are parents in the group, list the greatest challenges that you face in parenting. How does this passage encourage you in that? How does the Book of Ephesians encourage you to persevere in the trials of parenting?

  3. What does it mean to “provoke your children to anger” in verse 4 and how does a parent do that? What effect does it have on a child when a parent exasperates them and how can you avoid making that mistake?

  4. How do we bring our children up “in the discipline and instruction of the Lord?” List some ways that a parent can teach their child the Word of God. How can we do this in an encouraging way without provoking them to anger?

  5. Why is it important to remember that it is our job to raise our kids and not the church’s job or the school’s job? What happens when we fail to teach our children about the Lord and give the task over to others instead? What would this passage say to that?
