Psalms 89:1-52
89:3-4 | Three key terms used in these two verses also recur throughout this psalm: covenant (89:28, 34, 39), my servant David (89:20), and throne (89:14, 29, 36, 44). God’s covenantal promises to David (2 Sam. 7) were guaranteed by an irrevocable divine oath (89:28-37).
89:15-18 | The joyful sound refers to the shout God’s people uttered when they saw Him lifted up. It could be translated, “Happy are the people who have learned to praise you.” Our horn means “our strength.”
89:33-37 | Jesus fulfilled the promises in the Davidic Covenant (2 Sam. 7:1-29). His is the everlasting throne (Acts 2:29-36).
89:38-45 | The discipline of God seemed to endure “forever”, but He would never permanently renounce His covenant.
