Genesis 2:2-3 (NIV)
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Two Things To Note About God’s Rest

• God rested to show His power.

• God rested to institute rest among His people.

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

What Is Stopping Us From Rest?

• We are in a hurry.

• We are marked by anxiety.

Romans 5:3-4 (NIV)
… we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

• We are shackled in shame.

Hebrews 4:1 (NIV)
Therefore, since the promise of entering His rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it.

How To Rest …

• Keep a sabbath

• Hold these three core habits:

-Confession
-Contemplation
-Study
