Opening Question: What are some people/things that you have placed hope in? How did it work out for you?
Read 1 Peter 1:3
a. Mercy can be defined as “not receiving what we deserve.” Discuss the significance of this definition when it comes to our relationship with God.
b. The term “born again” is often thrown around without much thought. Discuss the significance of this term as it relates to our relationship with God. (See also John 3)
Read 1 Peter 1:4-5
a. Discuss the significance of the inheritance we receive from God upon being “born again.” Compare this inheritance with that received from a human relative.
b. Some people live in the fear that they can lose their salvation or lose their inheritance. What hope to we find in verse five that gives us assurance of our salvation? (See also Ephesians 1)
Read 1 Peter 1:6-7
a. How is it that we can “greatly rejoice” even in the midst of “various trials?”
b. Give examples of how our faith lived out can be more precious than gold?
Read 1 Peter 1:8-9
a. Discuss the significance in loving and believing in One, Jesus, that you’ve never met or seen. (See also John 20:26-29)
