1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: —1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. —Acts 2:38 KJV

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: —Matthew 28:19 KJV

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. —Mark 16:15-16 KJV

47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. —Luke 24:47-49 KJV

Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained. —John 20:23 KJV

The Last Command of Jesus (Luke 24:47-49)
Became the first command of the church (Acts 2:38)

IMMERSION (Greek “baptizo”) vs. SPRINKLING (Greek “rantizo”)

MUCH WATER

And John also was baptizing in Aenon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized. —John 3:23

INTO THE WATER

And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. —Acts 8:38

OUT OF THE WATER

And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. —Acts 8:39

BURIED IN WATER

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. —Romans 6:4

PLANTED IN WATER

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: —Romans 6:5

“IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST”

Jews - Acts 2:38

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. —Acts 2:38

Samaritans - Acts 8:16

(For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) —Acts 8:16

Gentiles - Acts 10:48

And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days. —Acts 10:48

ReBaptism of the Ephesians - Acts 19:5

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. —Acts 19:5

Peter Taught - Acts 4:12

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. —Acts 4:12

Paul Taught - Colossians 3:17

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. —Colossians 3:17

BAPTISM must be done in the NAME OF JESUS

“In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost”

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: —Matthew 28:19

  1. No one is being baptized in this verse.
  2. NAME IS SINGULAR. These three titles don’t have any authority they just describe the one name.
  3. Matthew didn’t write this until AD 62. Every baptism for thirty years had been in Jesus’ name.
  4. The apostles didn’t just REPEAT Jesus’ command, they OBEYED Jesus’ command.

No delayed baptisms in the New Testament.

Acts 2:41 - “the same day”

Acts 16:33 - “the same hour”

Acts 9:18 - “immediately”

Acts 10:48 - “he commanded them to be baptized”

Acts 22:16 - “why tarriest thou? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord”

For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. —Galatians 3:27

Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. —John 3:5

And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. —Acts 22:16
