Psalm 63:1–8 (ESV): O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2  So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.
3  Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
4  So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.
5  My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
6  when I remember you upon my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night;
7  for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
8  My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.

Shall we praise God in the Garden and not in the wilderness? —Charles Spurgeon

3 ways David is able to worship in the wilderness:

  1. SEEKING
  2. REMEMBERING & MEDITATING
  3. CLINGING

SEEKING

Psalm 63:1–8 (ESV): O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,

How good it is to get up early in the morning and let God suppress our need for everything else. —Tim Keller

Isaiah 40:31 (ESV): but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

REMEMBERING & MEDITATING

Psalm 63:2 (ESV): So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding your power and glory.

Psalm 63:3-4 (ESV):
3  Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
4  So I will bless you as long as I live;
in your name I will lift up my hands.

Psalm 63:5 (ESV):  My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,

Psalm 63:6-7 when I remember you upon my bed,
and meditate on you in the watches of the night; for you have been my help,
and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.

Psalm 139:5–6 (ESV): You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
6  Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.

CLINGING

Psalm 63:8 My soul clings to you;
your right hand upholds me.
