Exodus 17:15-16
Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means “the Lord is my banner”). 16 He said, “They have raised their fist against the Lord’s throne, so now the Lord will be at war with Amalek generation after generation.”

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.

Matthew 5:17
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

We are in a constant battle, a battle for the

of our lives.

The Bible is only telling one story. His Story.

I Corinthians 10:1-6
I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground. 2 In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses. 3 All of them ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ. 5 Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. 6 These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did,

The life of a disciple is not a problem free life. It is total on Him.

A series of appointments: dryness, disappointment and defeats.

Who are the Amalakites?

Exodus 17:8
While the people of Israel were still at Rephidim, the warriors of Amalek attacked them.

Amalekites = The sin within us all, the temptation to

our own lives

The Amalekites had:

A. Objective - Destroy

John 10:10a
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy…

I Peter 5:8-9 NKJV
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.

B. Strategy - Attack the weak and weary

2 Corinthians 11:14
But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

Exodus 17:9
Moses commanded Joshua, “Choose some men to go out and fight the army of Amalek for us. Tomorrow, I will stand at the top of the hill, holding the staff of God in my hand.”

The Battle

Exodus 17:10-13
So Joshua did what Moses had commanded and fought the army of Amalek. Meanwhile, Moses, Aaron, and Hur climbed to the top of a nearby hill. 11 As long as Moses held up the staff in his hand, the Israelites had the advantage. But whenever he dropped his hand, the Amalekites gained the advantage. 12 Moses’ arms soon became so tired he could no longer hold them up. So Aaron and Hur found a stone for him to sit on. Then they stood on each side of Moses, holding up his hands. So his hands held steady until sunset. 13 As a result, Joshua overwhelmed the army of Amalek in battle.

The Battle Belonged to the Lord!

Exodus 17:14
After the victory, the Lord instructed Moses, “Write this down on a scroll as a permanent reminder, and read it aloud to Joshua: I will erase the memory of Amalek from under heaven.”

Exodus 17:15-16
Moses built an altar there and named it Yahweh-Nissi (which means “the Lord is my banner”). 16 He said, “They have raised their fist against the Lord’s throne, so now the Lord will be at war with Amalek generation after generation.”

Numbers 2:2a
When the Israelites set up camp, each tribe will be assigned its own area. The tribal divisions will camp beneath their family banners on all four sides of the Tabernacle…

Psalm 20:5
May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory and raise a victory banner in the name of our God. May the Lord answer all your prayers.

Psalm 60:4
But you have raised a banner for those who fear you—a rallying point in the face of attack.

Song of Solomon 2:4 NKJV
He brought me to the banqueting house, And his banner over me was love.

4 Truths to Apply:

1.

victories do not mean easy wins

Romans 8:37
In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

I John 5:4
For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.

2. We must intercede in prayer and proceed in obedience

I Timothy 6:12
Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.

Proverbs 21:31
The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.

3. We need each other (prayer and support)

4. Set up

to remember

Whose flag are you flying today?
