Part of Vision22—Remembering our Vision in 2022
January 30, 2022

This morning, we remain united in several truths that we saw very clearly last week:

• God is sovereignly

in and around us
• We have all come from different places
• God has us we are for a reason
• These truths form the foundation of a that God has been writing and we are currently living in.

This week we want to celebrate what God is doing and where He is leading us this year. Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 2:6-10.

Make sure your wisdom is

• Here in 1 Corinthians, there is a real wisdom and strength that is from the Lord and there is a fake wisdom and strength that is from the world or the flesh.
• The

represents the system of thought that dominates a cultural mindset. These are popular ways of thinking or philosophies that cannot achieve God’s designs.
• The wisdom of the world is to God and has very specific outcomes that we will see in chapter 2. The wisdom of God looks foolish to the world, and it also has some very specific outcomes.
• 1 Corinthians 1:25, 27 | For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men…But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;
• Paul did not come preaching the wisdom of the world, but the wisdom of God. As he came and preached, and especially after he left, he was . Nevertheless, the content of his message was pure and true. See 1 Corinthians 2:1-5.

The of Worldly Wisdom (vv. 6-8)

• V. 6 >> Worldly wisdom

away just like the people who declare it.
• V. 7 >> The wisdom of God is like a buried and we have the map.
• V. 8 >> What is the outcome of worldly wisdom? How did those in the world respond Jesus Christ, the wisdom of God came and walked among them? They Him.

The of Spiritual Wisdom

• Paul loosely quotes Isaiah 64:4 | From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.
• V. 9 | But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”— >> Many people think that this verse is about

, but nothing about the context indicates that.
• Paul refers to our senses (sight, hearing) and to our . The wisdom and the plan of God cannot be discovered by human faculties. Verse 10 indicates that it will only be discovered as we walk in the Spirit of truth.
• When we walk in the Spirit of truth we discover the wisdom of God. The wisdom of God will lead believers to find truth, life, power and .
• Ephesians 3:20-21 | 20 Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Two Sheets of Paper

• As a church family, you have responded to previous steps of the vision in an incredible way. That means that, together, we are on the move. We are moving with the Spirit in the wisdom of God, united under the banner of Jesus, mobilized by His truth, looking out the brokenness of our community and talking about how we can make a real impact.
• So, I have a question for you that is going to involve that second blank sheet of paper. Take that sheet out and here is what we are going to do. If you are a member or a regular attender here, I want you to write one word on that sheet. You pick the answer to the question: Yes or No.
• Here is the question: Do you believe that God wants us to pursue this vision of the Ministry Village starting with the Foster Closet? Write Yes or No on the sheet of paper and pass it towards the center.
• What did you write on the first sheet of paper? This represents the obstacle to God using you as He writes your story and our story together.
• What have see today about the wisdom of God and walking in the Spirit? It takes complete surrender and abandoning worldly ways of thinking and worldly views of strength.
• Hear the plain invitation of God today: If we are going to follow Him into the future, we have got to crucify our worldly wisdom, our worldly strength, our worldly limitations, and follow Him without reservation
