I am saved…
From
As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler
of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. Eph. 2:1-3 NIV
In
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us
alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions… Eph. 2:4-5a
By
It is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. Eph. 2:5b-9
For
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Eph. 2:10
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- What are verses 1-3 saying about the desperate predicament we are all in without God?
- What remedy do verses 4-5 give us for being dead in sin? What do these verses tell us about God?
- Read verses 6-9. What point does Paul repeatedly make? What do these verses tell you about “earning” God’s favor? Do you ever feel that you need to earn God’s approval or favor? Why do you think it’s hard to accept his grace as a free gift?
- Read verse 10. The word translated “creation,” “handiwork,” or “masterpiece” means that God is the artist and we are his artistic triumph. He takes all our past mistakes and our skills, talents, and opportunities and weaves them into a beautiful person designed to do good works in a unique way. How do you respond to the idea that you are God’s artistic creation? Keep an eye out for good works He has prepared for you this week!
