JESUS SAID WHAT?
Take Up Your Cross…. Week 2
Mark 8:31-38
When it comes to Christianity one of the worst oxymoron is: half-hearted believer.
Mark 8:31–38 ESV – And he began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and after three days rise again.
32 And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37 For what can a man give in return for his soul? 38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
How can we live the life of a disciple and not fall into the habit of being a consumer?
Mark 8:33 ESV
A life based on what can I give rather than what can I take?
Mark 8:34 ESV
**”Lord, not my will, but thy will be done. Lord, it’s not about me and what I want; it’s about you and what you want to do through me, to be a blessing to others, and to bring glory to your name.”
What would happen in your life if that became your daily prayer?**
Mark 8:35-38 ESV
Galatians 2:20 ESV – I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
1 Corinthians 3:12-15 NLT - Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. 13 But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. 14 If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. 15 But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.
