Matthew 14:22-24
22Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.
- Jesus knowingly sent the disciples into a storm.
Acts 20:23 I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me.
Matthew 14:25-27
25Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. 27But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
He came to them walking on the sea and He was wishing to pass them by.
God hears you when you cry out to Him.
Matthew 14:28-29
28“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29“Come,” he said.
Jesus didn’t fix the problem; Jesus gave another command.
It’s time for our prayers to stop telling God what we want Him to do and start asking Him what He wants us to do.
Matthew 14:29-31
29“Come,” he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Why is this story in the Bible?
Jesus is talking about the duration of his faith.
Starting faith is great, but staying faith is what’s needed when the storm shows up.
- Peter saw Jesus for who He really was.
Seeing Jesus isn’t just to give you starting faith, seeing Jesus gives you staying faith.
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith.
Get a vision of Jesus.
Matthew 14:27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Jesus says- don’t be afraid because I Am.
The Great I Am was standing on top of everything that cause fear in his life.
Psalms 93:3-4
3The ocean rises, O LORD.
The ocean rises with a roar.
The ocean rises with its pounding waves.
4The LORD above is mighty—
mightier than the sound of raging water,
mightier than the foaming waves of the sea.
Peter obeyed the command Jesus gave him.
Peter understood that who was calling him was greater than what was surrounding him.
The one who’s called you is greater than anything that comes against you.
When Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, his faith started failing and he started sinking.
Matthew 14:30-31
30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
