Thoughts for the Week
After graduating seminary, my first ministry position was here at FBC
primarily working with youth and children. I was 25 years old, had just
completed a three year long master’s program and thought that I had
the answer to every theological question every asked, and thought that
I could handle any situation without fail. I quickly learned that this
was not the case and that I was going to need a lot of care and
guidance as I learned what it means to be a pastor. Dr. Bill Duke
helped me with a lot of this, but the church here at FBC did as well,
and I am very grateful.
As I meet a lot of pastors, I hear a lot of “horror” stories about the way
that they are treated by their congregations. Thankfully, the Lord has
blessed me to serve in two different churches, neither of which is
perfect, but both of which have members who know what it is to care
for the pastors of the church. I’d like for us all to reflect this week on
(1) ways that we have cared for our pastors well, even when it was
difficult, and (2) ways that we could have cared for our pastors better.**
