This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham: Matthew 1:1

Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, Matthew 1:2

I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, Genesis 26:4

Leave your own country behind you, and your own people, and go to the land I will guide you to. If you do, I will cause you to become the father of a great nation; I will bless you and make your name famous, and you will be a blessing to many others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you; and the entire world will be blessed because of you. Genesis 12:1-3


Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of King David. Matthew 1:5-6

and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah. Matthew 1:16

Messiah: Greek-“Christos” - Anointed One, Expected Savior, Chosen One.

The Connection Church is turning 20 and we want to invite you to celebrate with us. At Birthday and Baptism we will celebrate life change and everything God has done in the past 20 years and look forward to what He continues to do. Taking God at His Word

  • Abraham took God at His word, even when he didn’t know where it would lead. Share about a time when you trusted God without fully understanding His plan. How did that impact your faith?
  • What are some promises from God’s Word that people might struggle to believe in our everyday lives? How can we encourage each other to trust even more in those promises?
  • What is one step you can take this week to act in faith, trusting God at His word, even if you don’t see the whole picture yet?

Thanking God for His Grace

  • The genealogy of Jesus includes people with broken and imperfect lives. How does this encourage you when you reflect on your own family history or personal mistakes?

  • Why do you think God includes broken people in His redemptive plan? How does His grace impact the way we see ourselves and others?

  • In what area in your life do you need to rely on God’s grace? Share with the group how God’s grace has changed your life and how it can keep on bringing change to you.

Thinking Generationally

  • Pastor Cole talked about thinking beyond ourselves and leaving a legacy of faith for future generations. How has the faith of those who came before you impacted your own life and faith journey?
  • What does it mean to think generationally? What are some practical ways we can pass on our faith to the next generation?
  • What legacy do you want to leave for your family, community, or church? What specific steps can you take this week to invest in the faith of the next generation?

Breaking Generational Patterns

  • Pastor Cole mentioned that generational sins and attitudes can be passed down but also broken. Are there any negative patterns from your family that you feel called to break? How can you depend on God’s strength for this to happen?
  • How can we support each other in breaking negative generational patterns and building a new legacy of faith?
  • Share one area where you want to start a new legacy of faith. How can our group support you in this?

Leaving a Legacy of Integrity

  • Integrity is an important part of leaving a legacy. Are there areas in your life where you feel challenged to live with greater integrity? How does integrity play a role in the legacy you leave behind?
  • What does it look like to live out a legacy of integrity in today’s culture? How can we, as a group, model integrity for others?
  • What is a specific relationship or situation where you can demonstrate integrity this week? Share your plan with the group and ask for accountability.
