Overcoming Power!
Is it possible to love God, be a Christian, and not have an overcoming life?
One of the greatest tragedies of American Christianity today is the vast number of Christians who love Jesus but experience no victory over sin, no power to change, and no miracles in or through their lives.
- John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Forgiveness comes when we receive Him as Savior. Fullness comes when we receive the offer of life in the power of the Holy Spirit.
God never intended for us to just suffer through this life – He wanted you to have power - victory!

3 things Holy Spirit wants to do…
1) Holy Spirit wants to guide you.
Galatians 5:16
So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.Psalms 37:23
The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

2) Holy Spirit wants to give you freedom.
2 Corinthians 3:17-18
For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.2 Corinthians 3:17
Now, the “Lord” I’m referring to is the Holy Spirit, and wherever he is Lord, there is freedom.

3) Holy Spirit wants to give you power.
- Luke 4:14
Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region.
The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is when God fills us with POWER so we can overcome the enemy and accomplish all the things He has called us to do. It’s a supernatural outpouring of God’s Spirit.
Salvation is a gift to sinners, Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a gift to believers.

Luke 24:49
“And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”Acts 1:4-5
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
Power – Greek word dunamis – it is translated as “dynamite.”

Acts 2:1-5
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.Acts 8:14-17
When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to Samaria. When they arrived, they prayed for the new believers there that they might receive the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit had not yet come on any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:1-6
While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied. Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.1 Thessalonians 1:4-5
For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
There’s nothing like the POWER of the Holy Spirit.
