The Passion Week Reveals Jesus – Day 1

March 9th, 2025

Matthew 21:1-11

1. The Passion Week Foreshadowed the Mission of Jesus. (Vs. 1-5; Isa 9:6; Rom 16:20, 5:1-2)

Isaiah 9:6, “For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the
government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”

Romans 16:20, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The
grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”

Romans 5:1-2, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We have also obtained access through
him by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we boast in the hope of the
glory of God.”

2. The Passion Week Foreshadowed the Mission of Jesus. (Vs. 5-9a, John 12:12-13, Rev 19:11-16)

John 12:12-13, “The next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival
heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, they took palm branches and went out
to meet him. They kept shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the
name of the Lord—the King of Israel!””

Revelation 19:11-16, “Then I saw heaven opened, and there was a white horse.
Its rider is called Faithful and True, and with justice he judges and makes war.
His eyes were like a fiery flame, and many crowns were on his head. He had a
name written that no one knows except himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood,
and his name is called the Word of God. The armies that were in heaven followed
him on white horses, wearing pure white linen. A sharp sword came from his
mouth, so that he might strike the nations with it. He will rule them with an iron
rod. He will also trample the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. And he has a name written on his robe and on his thigh: KING OF KINGS AND
LORD OF LORDS.”

3. The Passion Week Foreshadowed the Mission of Jesus. (Vs. 9-11, 1 Tim 1:15-17, Rev 22:12-17)

1 Timothy 1:15-17, “This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance:
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them. But I received mercy for this reason, so that in me, the worst of them, Christ
Jesus might demonstrate his extraordinary patience as an example to those who
would believe in him for eternal life. Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible,
the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

Revelation 22:12-17, “Look, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me to
repay each person according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first
and the last, the beginning and the end. “Blessed are those who wash their robes,
so that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter the city by the
gates. Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers,
the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. “I, Jesus, have
sent my angel to attest these things to you for the churches. I am the root and
descendant of David, the bright morning star.” Both the Spirit and the bride say,
“Come!” Let anyone who hears, say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come.
Let the one who desires take the water of life freely.”
