Main Idea: The Rhythm of The Road
Check-In (Highs & Lows) 15 min
A great, quick way to catch the highlights of what is happening in the lives of the people in your group is to take turns quickly sharing the “highs & lows” of your week. High: What was your biggest highlight since we last met? Low: What was the low point during this time?
Settle-In (Ice-Breaker) 10 min
Share a brief story about a memorable encounter or conversation you’ve had while on a road or a journey.
Dig-In (Scripture) 35 min
1. Read Matthew 4:18-22. How did Jesus call his disciples, and what was unique about his invitation compared to traditional rabbinical calls?
2. What does the invitation “Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” imply about the disciples’ commitment and the transformation they would undergo?
3. Discuss the concept of being shaped by the roads and the idea that proximity to Jesus was essential for the disciples’ transformation.
4. How did the disciples experience new roads and rhythms because of their commitment to follow Jesus?
5. Reflect on the idea of traveling old roads with Jesus and incorporating faith into ordinary routines. How can faith be woven into everyday activities?
6. Read Luke 10:25-37. Explore the parable of the Good Samaritan and discuss the significance of the road in the story. How does it relate to loving our neighbor?
Gear-Up (Application) 15 min
1. How is Jesus currently shaping you on the roads of your life? Are there areas where you sense a need for transformation?
2. Consider the new roads and rhythms you’ve embraced or are willing to embrace because of your faith in Jesus. Share examples from your life.
Step-Up (Homework)
Identify one person in your life (a neighbor, friend, colleague) whom you can intentionally invite into your faith journey. This could involve sharing aspects of your faith, inviting them to a church event, or simply spending time together where your faith is naturally present. Reflect on this experience during the next group meeting.
