Introduction

The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)

36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” —Matthew 22:36-40 (NLT)

4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

—Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (NKJV)
18 “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against a fellow Israelite, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

—Leviticus 19:18 (NLT)

The Ten Commandments vs. The Two Commandments

Love Is The Key

Key Aspects Of Jesus’ New Paradigm:

1. Love’s Lawful

10 Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.

—Romans 13:10 (NLT)
17 “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.”

—Matthew 5:17 (NLT)
3 Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.

—1 John 5:3 (NLT)

2. Love’s Lasting

8 But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

—1 John 4:8 (NLT)

3. Love’s Living

20 If someone says, “I love God,” but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?

—1 John 4:20 (NLT)
23 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful; all things are lawful for me, but not all things edify.

—1 Corinthians 10:23 (NKJV)
