Guard What God Gave You — Part 3

Matthew 13:1-3 KJV

1 The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.

2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.

3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

1. SOME SEEDS FELL BY THE WAYSIDE

Matthew 13:4 KJV

4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

DEVOURED: to consume by eating, to strip one of his goods, to squander, to waste substance. (1 Peter 5:8)

2. SOME FELL UPON STONY PLACES

Matthew 13:5-6 KJV

5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith THEY SPRUNG UP, because they had no deepness of earth:

6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and BECAUSE THEY HAD NO ROOT, THEY WITHERED AWAY.

SCORCHED: to burn with heat, to be tortured with intense heat…

THEY WITHERED AWAY: to make dry, to waste away

3. SOME FELL AMONG THORNS

Matthew 13:7 KJV

7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them:

CHOKE: to stifle, to suffocate with water, to drown. (Isa. 59:19)

4. OTHER FELL INTO GOOD GROUND

Matthew 13:8-9 KJV

8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

THE PARABLE EXPLAINED

Matthew 13:10-11,18-21 KJV

10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?

11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and UNDERSTANDETH IT NOT, THEN COMETH THE WICKED ONE, AND CATCHETH AWAY THAT WHICH WAS SOWN IN HIS HEART. This is he which received seed by the way side.

20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for WHEN TRIBULATION OR PERSECUTION ARISETH BECAUSE OF THE WORD, by and by he is OFFENDED.

TEMPTATION

Matthew 13:22 KJV

22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and THE CARE OF THIS WORLD, and THE DECEITFULNESS OF RICHES, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

CARE: distractions, anxiety, worry, fear, doubt, unbelief…

2 Corinthians 4:4 KJV

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

THE DECEITFULNESS OF RICHES: delusion, the practice of deceiving someone by concealing or misrepresenting the truth about money.

Mark 4:18-19 KJV

18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,
19 And THE CARES OF THIS WORLD, and THE DECEITFULNESS OF RICHES, and THE LUSTS OF OTHER THINGS entering in, CHOKE THE WORD, AND IT BECOMETH UNFRUITFUL.

WATCH AND PRAY

Matthew 26:41 KJV

41 WATCH and PRAY, that ye enter not into temptation: THE SPIRIT INDEED IS WILLING, BUT THE FLESH IS WEAK.

1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

SATAN TEMPTED JESUS

Luke 4:5-8,13-14 KJV

5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 And the devil said unto him, ALL THIS POWER WILL I GIVE THEE, AND THE GLORY OF THEM: FOR THAT IS DELIVERED UNTO ME; AND TO WHOMSOEVER I WILL I GIVE IT.

7 IF THOU THEREFORE WILT WORSHIP ME, ALL SHALL BE THINE.

8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

14 And JESUS RETURNED IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT INTO GALILEE: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

JUDAS THREW IT ALL AWAY

John 13:2,21,26-27,30 KJV

2 And supper being ended, THE DEVIL HAVING NOW PUT INTO THE HEART OF JUDAS ISCARIOT, SIMON’S SON, TO BETRAY HIM;

21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

27 AND AFTER THE SOP SATAN ENTERED INTO HIM. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.

JUDAS’ HORRIBLE ENDING

Matthew 27:3-5 KJV

3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

5 AND HE CAST DOWN THE PIECES OF SILVER IN THE TEMPLE, AND DEPARTED, AND WENT AND HANGED HIMSELF.

DEMAS FORSOOK PAUL

2 Timothy 4:10 KJV

10 For DEMAS HATH FORSAKEN ME, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

FORSAKEN: leave in straits, leave helpless, totally abandoned, utterly forsaken…

LOVED: to welcome, to entertain, to be fond of, to love dearly…

LOVE NOT THE WORLD

1 John 2:15-17 KJV

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.

GEHAZI LIED TO NAMAAN

2 Kings 5:25-27 KJV

25 But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither.

26 And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with thee, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants?

27 The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed forever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

KING SAUL

1 Samuel 15:22-23 KJV

22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
