I. Every religion claims

a.

makes exclusive claims

i. The Triune and personal nature of God (Mark 12:29; John 1:1, 14; Acts 5:3-4)

  1. God is one –

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” – Mark 12:29

  1. The Father is God –

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” – John 1:1

  1. The Son is God –

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…” – John 1:14

  1. The Spirit is God –

“But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.’” – Acts 5:3-4

ii. Sinfulness of all humankind (Rom. 3:23; 6:23)

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” – Rom. 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death” – Rom. 6:23

iii. Salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone (Rom. 5:8; Eph. 2:8-9; Rom. 10:9; cf. John 14:6)

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Rom. 5:8

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” – Eph 2:8-9

“because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Rom. 10:9

“For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about… Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due.” – Rom. 4:2, 4


b. Salvation by sheer is available to (Rom. 3:24; John 3:16)


“…and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” – Rom. 3:24


ii. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
