Discussion Questions - Luke 11:33-36
READ AGAIN: Luke 11:33-36
- We are told many times that people were amazed at what Jesus said and did in the Gospels. Even so, not everyone followed Him… Why do people reject Him?
- The Scribes, Pharisees and other religious leaders might have rejected Jesus, in part, because He was a threat to their authority. Do you think many people reject Him, because they want to be the authority in their own lives?
- Pastor Chris told a story about how some have said that even if they believed that Jesus was the Son of God, they wouldn’t follow Him. Do you know anyone like that? Were you ever like that?
- Why do Jesus’ words and works demand a response?
- Why is there only two options when it comes to Jesus?
- Jesus is a master of using the world around Him to point to spiritual truths. What commonplace item does He use in this story? Why is this method of teaching effective?
- What does Jesus mean when He says “your eye is the lamp of your body?”
- Lamps and light aren’t the same thing. What is the light in this illustration?
- Jesus says “when your eyes are healthy, your whole body is flooded with light.” Are there things that we can do to make sure our “eyes” are healthy?
- In what ways do we try and keep the light from shining into the “dark parts” of our lives? Why do we do that?
- We are supposed to be full of light so that when others “come in” may see it. What does it look like for others to “come into” our lives?
- Pastor Chris talked about Blinders, Bowls and Bars. Blinders keep you from seeing Jesus properly. Bowls keep His light from illuminating your “darkness,” and Bars keep others from seeing His light in you. What adjustments should you make to remove your blinders, bowls and bars?
