Bible Engagement: The Promised Land/Joshua

Book of Joshua—named after the new leader of the Israelites who would lead them into the Promised Land. The name “Joshua” is a variation of the name “Jesus.”
Author: either Joshua or Samuel
Audience: the Israelites after they settled in the Promised land
Genre: historical narrative
When: depending on author, written either 1380 B.C. or 1050 B.C. concerning events that happened around 1410 B.C. to 1380 B.C.
Why: To record God’s great works of fulfilling the covenantal promise of giving the Promised land to His people, the Israelites.
