- What impacted you most from this week’s message? What challenged you or encouraged you?
- What did you learn about Jesus this week that was unexpected? Did Jesus say anything in this passage that was hard for you to accept? How do Jesus’ words in this section change or deepen your understanding of God?
- Read John 8:12-20. What is the significance of Jesus declaring that He is the light of the world at the Festival of Tabernacles? What does it mean that Jesus is the light of the world?
- What does Jesus mean when He said, “If you knew me, you would know my Father also” (John 8:19)? What was Jesus saying to the religious leaders?
- Read John 8:21-30. What difference is highlighted between Jesus and the religious leaders? What did Jesus mean when he said, “I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins” (John 8:24)? What does it mean to die in your sins? How does belief in Jesus save people from dying in their sins?
- Read John 8:31-47. What did Jesus teach about the nature of belief, obedience, and truth in the section? How does belief in Jesus set a person free from slavery to sin?
- In these verses, Jesus told the religious leaders several difficult truths. What did he say to them? Why did Jesus compare the religious leaders with the devil? What did their lack of belief in Jesus’ deity reveal about their relationship with God?
- Read John 8:48-59. What did Jesus say in verse 58? Why did the religious leaders pick up stones to stone Him? What was Jesus saying about his identity?
