Untapped (Superpowers), week 2: Only the Good Words

John 1:1-4 and Ephesians 4:29

We have

. We should use them.

We’ve tapped into the power of our words, but we’ve left untapped the superpower of

words.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. —John 1:1-4

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence —Proverbs 10:11

Problem: the bad stuff is so much easier to believe

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them —Ephesians 4:29

“As the beloved, blood-bought daughters and sons of God, we must use our words to call out the best in each other versus punishing each other for the worst. To speak the truth in love is to offer encouragement, to put courage into a soul.” —-Ann Voskamp

En-Courage-ment - to put courage into

Words have power to

, and power to .

We have the

superpower of kindness, gentleness, and self-control that enables us to choose between the two.

What if we determined to use only the good words?

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. —Psalm 19:14
