Title: When Jesus Came
Text: John 10:10
Date: December 10, 2023
Introduction: When we study the four Gospels, (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), it is fascinating to note the numerous times we find this expression, “When Jesus came.”
— “When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.” (Matthew 8:1)
— “When Jesus came into Peter’s house, he saw Peter’s mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.” (Matthew 8:14)
— “When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’” (Matthew 16:13)
It is very interesting to note the results, the effect, and/or the outcome of a visit by or with Jesus. We will discover that there is not a single instance in which the individuals to whom Jesus came was not helped, blessed, challenged, or transformed by His presence.
The essence of the good news, the glorious proclamation of Christmas, is that Jesus came into this world as a positive force to bring life. That is the truth He declared in our text for this morning. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
The truth declared in our text is demonstrated over and over in the experiences recorded in the four Gospels. Let’s study some of these experiences to understand more fully what happens when Jesus comes into the life of a person. There are numerous examples in the Gospels which verify this truth. Let me mention four for consideration.
