Message Notes:

Oasis is a safe place to love God, grow in groups, and serve others.

Main Idea:

Picking up your cross and following Jesus means walking in a rhythm of serving.

It keeps us Christ centered and not self-centered.

MY GOAL:

To remind you that God loves you and he wants you to grow…

But until you prioritize serving others…your faith will always hit a stale lid that stops your growth in its tracks.

1. Jesus says it is better:

Matthew 20:25-28
25 Jesus called them to Him and said, “You know how the kings of the nations show their power to the people. Important leaders use their power over the people. 26 It must not be that way with you. But whoever wants to be great among you, let him care for you. 27 Whoever wants to be first among you, let him be your servant. 28 For the Son of Man came not to be cared for. He came to care for others. He came to give His life so that many could be bought by His blood and made free from the punishment of sin.” NLV

Mark 10:43
Whoever wants to be great must become a servant. MSG

Mark 10:45
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve. NIV

2. You were put on earth to make a contribution

Ephesians 2:10
“It is God himself who has made us what we are and given us new lives from Christ Jesus; and long ages ago he planned that we should spend these lives in helping others.” LB

Ephesians 2:10b
“In our union with Christ Jesus he has created us for a life of good deeds, which he has already prepared for us to do.” TEV

Jesus said in Mark 8:35
“Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live.” LB

3. You can make a difference

1 Corinthians 15:58
“Keep busy always in your work for the Lord, since you know that nothing you do in the Lord’s service is ever useless.”

We might not all be called to a career of life service.

But we are ALL called to make a difference in how we serve others.

Take Away:

We serve God when we serve others.

How did Jesus serve?

1. He did it for the right reasons

2. He wasn’t looking for a promotion

3. He did it when it was inconvenient

4. He did it cheerfully as unto the Lord

Matthew 25:21
He says, ”Well done, good and faithful servants. You’ve been faithful in a few things. I’ll put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness.” NIV

CHALLENGE QUESTION:

What are some things in your life right now that you are consistently doing to serve others and give of yourself?
