THE

FOR ALL RELATIONSHIPS

“I only speak the words that my Father speaks to me.”
John 14:24

“My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me…”
John 4:34

“Then Jesus was led out into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit to be tempted there by the Devil.”
Matthew 4:1 NLT

Let’s put this together:
The Father glorifies the Son.
The Son glorifies the Father.
The Holy Spirit glorifies the Father & the Son.
The Son never speaks on his own initiative.
The Holy Spirit never speaks on his own initiative.
The Son is directed by The Holy Spirit.

THE

IN ALL OUR RELATIONSHIPS

“The most pleasurable journey you take thru life is with yourself. The only sustaining love is with yourself. When you look back on your life and try to figure out where you have been and where you are going. When you look at your work, your love affair, your marriages, your children, your pain, your happiness, when you examine all that closely what you really find out is that the only person you go to bed with is yourself. The only thing you have working for you is the consummation of your own identity. That’s what I’ve been trying to do all my life.” —Shirley McClain

THE

FOR ALL OUR RELATIONSHIPS

“Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Ephesians 5:21 (NIV)

“The capacity of two people to share deep feelings of intimacy is strongly correlated with shared power. Rather than dominating one another, healthy spouses complement one another.” —Dr. Lewis Drucker of Timberline Psychiatric Center

“Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.”
Ephesians 5:22-24 (NIV)

“… the truths of this text have been perverted and abused by disordered and sinful men. God’s holy Word in the hands of a religious fool can do immense harm. I have seen ‘couch potatoes’ who ordered their wives and children around like the grand sultan of Morocco—adulterous men … with the domestic ethics of ‘Jabba the Hut’ who cow their wives around with Bible verses about submission—insecure men whose wives do not dare go to the grocery without permission, who even tell their wives how to dress. But the fact that evil, disordered men have perverted God’s Word is no reason to throw it out.” —Kent Hughes

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”
Ephesians 5:25 NIV

“Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand its own way. Love is not irritable and keeps no records of when it has been wronged.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NLT)

“Eve was made by God not out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be loved.” —Matthew Henry
