Small Group Questions: Blessed - Satisfy the Crave

Read:

God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice (righteousness), for they will be satisfied. —Matthew 5:6

Ask:

  1. Pastor Jeff mentioned that he craves things such as White Castle, or coconut cake. What are some foods in your life that you often crave?

  2. At what point does craving something we love become a potential problem for us? Why do people not experience satisfaction in their cravings? (They always want more.)

  3. Jesus said that God blesses those who hunger and thirst (crave) justice. How would you define the word justice?

Leaders Note: Justice = Justness, righteousness, righteousness of which God is the source or author, but practically: a divine righteousness. It refers to what is deemed right by the Lord.

Craving for justice (righteousness) is ultimately about living a life that craves for the spiritual things of God by living each day with a divine desire for all parts of our lives to reflect God’s standard for holiness.

Read:

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. 3 Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!—Psalm 63:1-3

111 Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight. 127 Truly, I love your commands more than gold, even the finest gold. 131 I pant with expectation, longing for your commands. —Psalm 119:111,127,131

May God give you more and more grace and peace as you grow in your knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord. —2 Peter 1:2

Ask:

  1. Have you ever longed for God like David? What do you think that looks like on a daily basis? What do you feel like hinders you from having this kind of passion for the Lord more regularly?
  2. Where have you struggled with following God’s commands? Has the Bible ever felt more like a rule book than a love letter to you?
  3. If comfortable, share an area of your life where you at one time struggled to surrender, but have since surrendered. What caused the change?

Apply:

  1. What is one thing from this message that stood out to you the most?
  2. What action, whether big or small, could you take in the next 48 hours to help you begin practicing craving the righteousness of God?
