
In the bible we see 3 notable storms:
- In the book of Jonah
- In Matthew 8 with Jesus
- In Acts 8 with Paul
These storms ended when:
- Jonah gets tossed overboard
- Jesus rebukes the storm
- With Paul, the ship ran it’s course and claimed the ship
When we are out of God’s will, He will use a storm to get your attention. God will discipline His children when they are disobedient.
What is the difference between discipline and punishment?
Punishment is eternal; disciplne is

Punishment is out of wrath; discipline is out of
Punishment is
We need to throw the Jonah’s of laziness, unforgiveness, negative emotions, lying, stealing and cutting corners out of the boat.
Next is Jesus’ storm in Matthew. Jesus slept through the storm, and we know that He was not disobedient. He had peace during the storm. God can give you peace in your storm.
“and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”
Philippians 4:7
How do you have peace during the storm, you receive it.
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”
John 14:27
Great faith tells the problem how big
We need to live in a way where the spirit of the Lord will control our soul (thoughts, emotions)
King David spoke to his soul and forced it to align with God.
“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.””
Psalm 42:5
In Paul’s ship wreck, God said there would be no loss of life, He did not say that they would not lose the ship.
Sometimes, you have to learn how to stay afloat and swim during your storm.
