Love Like Jesus

To love like Jesus, we must make Jesus our first love.

John 21:15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!”

1 John 4:7 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

I John 4:19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
Revelation 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.

To love like Jesus, we must make Jesus our first love.

Only you and Jesus truly know whether He is your first love.

Signs that “First Love” is Fading

When my delight in the Lord is no longer as great as my delight in something or someone else…
When my Soul no longer cries out for times of rich fellowship in God’s word and in prayer…
When I easily give into those things that I know displease the Lord claiming to be “only human”…
When the thought of God’s presence constantly with me is a reason for fear rather than a reason for joy…
When I selfishly hoard my resources and fail to give cheerfully to the Lord’s work…
When I view Christ’s commands as a restriction to my pleasure rather than an expression of His love…
When I am driven by the world’s measures of success rather than a desire to hear God’s “well done” …
When I become complacent to the sinful conditions that exist around me—especially my friends…
When I fail to share my faith with those my life touches because I am fearful, lazy or unmotivated…
When I feel secure for the future and well fed in the present I begin to (foolishly) believe that I am immune from the consequences of allowing my walk with God to deteriorate and my love for him to fade…
