‌Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose

• Share a time when God provided a way out, protecting you from your own temptations. What did you learn?

‌Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters

• Define “temptation.” How is temptation different from sin? When does it cross the line from one to the other?

• Who tempts us? Read James 1:14-15.

• Read Hebrews 4:15. Are you surprised by this statement about Jesus? Why?

• How does Jesus’ experience with temptation help Him relate to us? Does His sinless response encourage you or discourage you? Explain.

• Read 1 Corinthians 10:13. Which temptations that you face are unique? Who else struggles with the same things that tempt you? How does that knowledge impact our shame and/or our willingness to share our struggles?

• God won’t allow us to be tempted beyond what we can stand. Think about the biggest temptation you face. What is your response to the knowledge that you can withstand rather than caving in to sin?

• Would you rather have less temptation or more strength to resist? Which does God typically offer in your situations?

• God always provides a way out. Give some examples of a “way out” and what it might look like. In the moment, are you looking for these types of escapes, or are you looking for something more dramatic? How can imagining them now prepare you to respond better in the moment?

• When should you start looking for the escape? In the moment, or before you get to the moment? When is it easier to take the escape God provides?

• If we sin anyway, what should be our first response? Read 1 John 1:8-9.

Prayer—Taking Your Thoughts to God

• Thank God for His ongoing provision in our temptations. Ask for eyes to see and ears to hear the way out He provides.

• Praise Him for always providing for you!
