Decisions or Disciples
October 22, 2023
Matthew 28:18-20
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
- This is a passage we are revisiting from the beginning of this series. Jesus said to make disciples; He did not say make converts. In your view, what is the difference between making a disciple and making a convert?
- Matthew 13:1-9 presents the parable of the soils. How might this be relevant for a discussion of converts and disciples.
- Tell the group a little bit about how various people have guided you into a life of following Jesus with intent and purpose.
- Which is easier to count and to measure: converts or disciples? Why?
- In your opinion, why are so many people able to make a decision for God, but so few are able to continue following Him?
- For you personally, what ignited your desire to follow Jesus?
- How can the Church (not just MVCC, but the whole Church of which Jesus Christ is the head) do a better job helping people become genuine disciples and not just converts?
