GOD’S FINAL INSTRUCTIONS
November 30 & December 1, 2024 // Pastor Matt Berry
5In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” 6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.
1 Peter 5:5–10, NIV
Humility: Knowing that there’s a God and I’m not Him. It’s knowing that I have nothing and can achieve nothing of value without God.
1. GOD WANTS TO LIFT YOU UP…
2. WITHOUT HUMILITY, YOU’RE
“Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father.”
James 1:16–17, NIV
3. YOU WEREN’T MEANT TO GO THROUGH LIFE
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Galatians 6:2, NIV
7Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:7–10, NIV
