Sermon Series: Never Alone
Sermon Title: Lonely…in the Church
Passage: Colossians 1:18
Speaker: Steve Howell
Use the following questions and directions based on today’s sermon as a starting point for spiritual discussions with your family or a small group of Christian friends this week.
Fellowship—Relationship with a Purpose
- What percentage of your friends and connections are in the church? What do those relationships provide that people outside the church cannot?
Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters
- In what ways are you connected to the Church (all believers, everywhere)? Would you feel a sense of belonging worshiping with other believers somewhere on the other side of the planet? Why or why not?
- In what ways are you connected to this church (local)? Is your connection deeper than your connection to the global Church? Why or why not?
- How does the church function as the “hands and feet” of Christ (Colossians 1:18)? Can you share any examples when it has been “the body” of Christ in your own life?
- What should an ideal church look like? See Acts 2:42-47 as an example.
- If the church is supposed to be a place of connection, why do so many people struggle to find their place in it?
- How do you help others feel more at home in our church?
- Do you think your attendance at church is frequent enough? How often do you attend worship? Bible studies? Other church activities?
- Why is your physical presence at church important (Hebrews 10:24-25)?
- If someone shares a need with you, do you pray with them on the spot or promise to do so later? Would you be comfortable praying right then? Why or why not?
Prayer – Taking Your Thoughts to God
- Pray for those in our congregation who feel disconnected. Pray for God to nudge you towards those who need to know His love. Ask Him to use you as His hands and feet in those situations.
