Points of Meditation & Reflection

Sermon Title & Text “Remember” Psalms 132 ESV
Sermon Series: One Step Closer: Progressively moving closer and closer to God.
Message in a Sentence: Live a life that can’t be counted in years but in soul’s for Christ.
• Revivalist Henry Varley once said to D.L. Moody, “Moody, the world has yet to see what God will do with a man fully consecrated to Him”.
• David was a man of human weaknesses & God given purpose. Through David’s life yielded totally to God, God’s purposes were built, started and carried out. David saw a need, desired to fill that need and asked the Lord if he could do it. God said NO! Yet, with great personal pain David set the stage for the temple to be built. [1 Chr 17:1, 22:7, Acts 7:46-47]
The Life of David vv1-7:
David’s life provided the “ascending” Jewish pilgrims a point of reference for God’s relationship with His people. Relationship is defined as “a connection or binding of participants”. The relationship between God and David, started before David knew anything about God [cf 1 Sam 13:14, 16:7].
3 Points of Relationship with God and His People
1. Built On vv1-4: David’s commitment to the Lord enabled God to build a house for God’s people. Can God build with/through your life?
a. David endured hardship v1[cf 1 Chr 22:14]
b. Committed Himself to the Lord vv2-4
2. Start With v5: The specific thing David wanted to build & do for the Lord was God’s temple. Can God start with you?
a. David’s determination eventually became the church which was inaugurated through the blood of Christ.
b. Mighty One of Jacob is a title often used to connect with the destiny of God’s people cf Gen 49:24
3. Trust in v6-7: David’s dedicated life work to the Lord furthered worship to God - forever. David had the desire to build the temple, but it wasn’t for him to build the temple. Can God trust you to do what He desires to do in you?
a. Testimony of David’s life v6
b. Memory & fruit of David’s life pointed to the Lord and led to worship v7

To continue to develop your relationship with Christ, spend time every day this week praying and meditating on this passage and it’s truths [EveryDay Jesus - below].

Everyday Jesus: Psalms 132, Deepen our heart to serve you, with an eternal impact.
· Monday: Read 1 Chronicles 16-17. Chapter 16 provides context of David’s desire & reverent worship. Chapter 17 further shows us David’s desire. But also, ch 17 shows God’s response and David’s prayer [v16 - Oh my!]. As you take time to read God’s word, begin to thank God for how far He has brought you then ask Him to put a desire in your heart to make an eternal impact for the Lord - through your life!
· Tuesday: Read 2 Samuel 6-7 which is much like yesterday’s reading. Then re-read David’s prayer in 2 Samuel 7:18-29 and/or 1 Chronicles 17:16-29. Meditate on David’s heart for the Lord as seen in these passages. Let this meditation lead you to pray for your own heart for the Lord.
· Wednesday: {Day of Fasting} God had a plan for David’s life that was established before David was made aware of the plan. Today, see this pattern through the lives of David, Job & Joseph. Read [David]1 Sam 13:14, 16:7. [Job] Job 1:6-12. [Joseph] Gen 37:1-11. Point is, God may/may not specifically tell you His plan. But by just knowing there is a plan for your life, ask God to align your life with His plan and deepen your faithfulness so that your life may glorify Him.
· Thursday: Read Ps. 132:1-4. David’s life could be built upon. Today, from your heart and your own words, ask God to continually shape your character so that He can “build” in and through your life dedicated to Him.
· Friday: Read Ps.132:1-5. God was able to “start” something through David’s life. Read v1-5 several times and ask God to use your life to demonstrate His significance [aka Glory]
· Saturday: Read Ps. 132:1-7. The testimony of David’s life spread wide and encouraged generations to worship the Lord. This testimony required that God could “trust” David to be obedient and allow Solomon to build God’s house. Express your earnest desire to be used by God in the way He has designed for you to be used by Him - not your own way or plan.
