Series Intro: It doesn’t take much to see that we are living in what the bible calls - The End Times. With every world news event or report, it’s like bible prophecy is being fulfilled in real time. But, what do we do with this information? How should we be responding to it all as believers? And where exactly are we in the timeline of the end of the world? This series will serve to take us on a biblical journey through the book of Revelation that greatly detail the events, timeline and purpose to the End of the World as we know it and help us understand it with great sobriety, faith and encouragement.
The Timeline of the Book of Revelation
- The Age of the Church (Revelation 1-5)
- The Tribulation Period (Revelation 6-16)
- The New Beginning (Revelation 17-22)
Revelation 17-19: Fall of Babylon the Great.
REVELATION 17:6 NIV
I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
REVELATION 17:9 ESV
This calls for a mind with wisdom: the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated.
REVELATION 17:16 NIV
The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire.
REVELATION 18:4-5 NIV
Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “‘Come out of her, my people,’ so that you will not share in her sins, so that you will not receive any of her plagues; 5 for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.
REVELATION 18:10-19 NIV
Woe! Woe to you, great city, you mighty city of Babylon! In one hour your doom has come! 16 Woe! Woe to you, great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. 17 In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin! 19 Woe! Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!
REVELATION 19:6-10 NIV
Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.) 9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.” 10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!
Revelation 19: The Second Coming of Christ and the Battle of Armageddon.
REVELATION 19:11-21 NIV
I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Coming out of his mouth is a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. “He will rule them with an iron scepter.” He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: king of kings and lord of lords. 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, 18 so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and the mighty, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, great and small.” 19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to wage war against the rider on the horse and his army. 20 But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur. 21 The rest were killed with the sword coming out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.
ZECHARIAH 14:4,8 NIV
And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. 8 That living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, Half of them toward the Dead sea and half of them toward the western sea…
Revelation 20: The Millennial Reign of Christ.
REVELATION 20:1-3 NIV
And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time.
REVELATION 20:6 NIV
…will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.
REVELATION 20:7-15 NIV
When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth—Gog and Magog—and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore. 9 They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. 10 And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
The Great White Throne Judgement
REVELATION 20:15 NIV
Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
The New Heavens and the New Earth
REVELATION 21:1-3 NIV
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the
first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. 5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.
REVELATION 21:18 NIV
The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass.
God’s Final Words.
REVELATION 22:20-21 NIV
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
