TODAY: The Forgiveness of God - 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. (Mat. 5:12)

Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV
9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Matthew 6:12 NLT
And forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

The grace you extend is tied to the grace you receive.

1. We need forgiveness

For us to ever come into the presence of a perfectly holy God and feel like we don’t need forgiveness would be the greatest sense of arrogance.

Romans 3:10-12, 23 NLT
As the Scriptures say,
“No one is righteous—not even one.
No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God.
All have turned away; all have become useless.
No one does good, not a single one.”

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

Matthew 6:12 NLT
And forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

2. We must forgive others

No matter what somebody may have done to you, they have not done to you what your sin did to Jesus.

One of the greatest sins in the church may be a lack of forgiveness, which stems from pride, and it stems from actually not preaching the gospel to ourselves.

Psalm 103:11-12 AMP
For as the heavens are high above the earth,
So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear and worship Him [with awe-filled respect and deepest reverence].
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

3. Be Honest Before God

1 John 1:8-9 NLT
If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

Matthew 6:12 CEB
Forgive us for the ways we have wronged you, just as we also forgive those who have wronged us.

Isaiah 43:25 NLT
“I—yes, I alone—will blot out your sins for my own sake and will never think of them again.

Romans 5:8 NLT
But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Mark 11:25 ESV
And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

The grace I extend is tied to the grace I receive.
Forgiven people forgive people.
