Week 10: Proverbs 3:9-12
July 1-7
Overview: Solomon’s next instruction to his son continues with how to honor the Lord. We honor the Lord with our possessions and with our attitude. In our possessions, we give to the Lord what we receive “first from our increase.” God is a generous giver, so we should be as well. Solomon also includes honoring the Lord through accepting his correction of us. In these ways our honoring of Him will reap consequences for our benefit. Malachi 3:10 says, “‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the Lord Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’” The Lord is serious about his care for us. It is a privilege to give, and it is a privilege to be so loved by the Lord that he cares to discipline us for our good. We do not “loath his reproof,” nor do we “resent his corrections” of us. These are two ways we can honor God with our lives.
