Text: Ecclesiastes 6

Introduction: There are a lot of foolish people in the world. We do not have a monopoly on foolish people today. Fools have lived in every century and every generation. The Bible has much to say about fools. The word fool today usually means “a silly or stupid person; a person who lacks judgment or sense” (Dictionary.com). The biblical definition has the added dimension of “someone who disregards God’s Word.” The Bible list many characteristics of such a person, often contrasting him with one who is wise. Ecclesiastes 10:2 says, “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.” A fool is one whose wayward heart turns continually toward foolishness. “For fools speak folly, their hearts are bent on evil: They practice ungodliness and spread error concerning the Lord; the hungry they leave empty and from the thirsty they withhold water” (Isaiah 32:6). Proverbs 26:11 records, “As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.” Fools do not learn their lessons from the mistakes they make. They continue doing the same foolish things over and over again, to their own destruction. “The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives” (Proverbs 18:7).
Today, as we continue our study in Ecclesiastes, Solomon addressed foolish people in chapter 6. As the preacher is searching for meaning in life by observing those around him, he discovered several foolish people in his day. A foolish person is:
I. A person who has
II. A person who has
III. A person who has
IV. A person who has
