Protection

39 The Lord rescues the Godly, he is their fortress in times of trouble.” Psalm 37:39

Big Idea: Sometimes God’s eternal purposes don’t always align with our temporary plans

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, ‘Let us go to the other side.’ 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.

37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’ 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’ 41 They were terrified and asked each other, ‘Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!’” Mark 4:35-41

(1.) God’s protection is found in his promises

105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

(2.) God’s protection is found in his presence

11 The Spirt of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by the same Spirit living within you.” Romans 8:11

10 Do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

(3.) God’s protection is found in his peace

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
