Plateaued:

When you are spiritually stuck but don’t know it

Series Theme:

There are 4 landing spots in our faith journey we tend to get stuck in.

Finding your way through those are vital to your continued growth in Christ.

TODAY:

Part 3 – Following…but not changing.

Today we are talking to those who are already following Jesus…
But have hit a wall and are not experiencing the life change they thought they would.

What is the wall?
Hurts, Habits, Hang ups
Tragedy, Trials, Testing

Signs you are stuck at this level:

  • This is the person who is doing the right things…but there has been a noticeable STOP in your faith.
  • This is the person who is serving, giving, loving, trying…but you feel like you are plateaued and stuck.
  • This is the person that is faced with a difficult life crisis, and you don’t see any way past it or out of it.
  • This is the person who is experiencing debilitating fear…and you don’t know how to move forward
  • This is the person who has a seemingly impossible task in front of you…and you are not sure how you are going to get through
  • This is the person who knows what God wants you to do…but you are not sure you have the strength to do it.
  • ONE OF THE BEST WAYS – Ask your spouse, kids, or those closest to you…

If you are stuck at this level…
What wall have you come up against that you are avoiding or unable to push through?

Main Idea:

Walls are a normal part of spiritual growth…God has not abandoned you.

Breaking through the walls is how we experience real and meaningful life change.

Luke 22:42-43 - 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” 43 An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. NIV

1. Recognize the wall is there

Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. NIV

GIFT test – Guilt, Inferiority, Fear, Trauma

2. Don’t stop until you have broken through the wall

Hebrews 12:1-3…And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. NIV

3. The wall experience is as much about you as it is the wall.

James – half-brother of Jesus

James 1:2-12 - 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. 9 Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. 10 But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower. NIV

The wall is like a hurricane.
Even in the middle of a storm…you can find God’s peace.

Psalm 16:11 You will make known to me the way of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever. NASB
