Scripture is full of narratives of great men and women walking through Dry Places.
1. Moses:
Led the Israelites through the wilderness for 40 years, facing physical dryness and spiritual challenges as they journeyed from Egypt to the Promised Land.
(Exodus 16-17, Numbers 14)
2. Elijah:
Spent time in the wilderness, including the dry brook of Cherith, and later traveled 40 days and nights to Mount Horeb, feeling despondent and spiritually dry.
(1 Kings 17:2-7, 1 Kings 19:4-8)
3. John the Baptist:
Lived and preached in the wilderness of Judea, a physically dry and harsh environment, calling people to repentance and preparing the way for Jesus.
(Matthew 3:1-4, Mark 1:4-6)
4. Hagar:
Abraham’s concubine, Hagar, was sent away into the desert with her son Ishmael, where they faced the threat of dying from thirst before God provided for them.
(Genesis 21:14-19)
5. Jesus:
Spent 40 days and nights fasting in the wilderness, a place of physical dryness, where he was tempted by Satan and faced spiritual trials. (Matthew 4:1-11, Luke 4:1-13)
- Like all other saints, expect that your life will be full of dry places as is a rose with thorns.
- The victory of the believer will not be cheaply bought. Our crown is not to be won without wrestling and overcoming.
Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; —I Peter 4:12 (NKJV)
Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are. —1 Peter 5:9 (NLT)
After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” —Matthew 3:16-17 (NLT)
Matthew 4:1-4 (CEV) The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the desert, so that the devil could test him.

II.] The Purpose of Dry Places
- Integrity is a test too – Integrity is proven by what you won’t do.
- Feeling ordinary is a test too. In the Dry Places, the Spirit of the Lord is chipping off your ego.
III.] Angels in Dry Places
Angels came …
…When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. —Isaiah 59:19 (KJV)
Angels do not come to everyone…
Angels will only come to them that fear him, That word fear means reverence, people who reverence.
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them. —Psalm 34:7 (NIV)
Fear of God begins with words, but it’s proven by our actions. You judge a tree by it’s fruit.
