Let’s Go
Week one - Transition Tension
Joshua 1:1-2
Bottom line: Pay attention to the tension.
For many, summer is a transition season - transition from one school year to the next, one season of life to the next
Transitions have an inherent
Andy Stanley likes to say, “Pay attention to the tension.”
Recognize the inner red flag
Don’t rush past discomfort
Listen to the Holy Spirit prompting you, convicting you, nagging you, pushing you
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them—to the Israelites. —Joshua 1:1-2
Whiplash - “Moses is dead. Now then…”
Moses had been in charge for a really long time. He was the one who led them out of slavery in Egypt. He led them for 40 years while they tried to get their act together in the desert. Moses had put himself on the line for them.
Joshua’s in charge.
Joshua was ready to lead because he spent years acting as Moses assistant (Exodus 24.13), his apprentice, his companion, his spy, and as a military leader (Exodus 17.8-13) under Moses’ command.
Moses publicly commissioned Joshua to lead Israel into the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 31.7-8, Numbers 27.18-23)
*But it’s like a lot of transitions - until it’s actually happening, you can pretend it’s not happening
Get your bags - it’s time to go.
When you find yourself in a season of transition - “Pay attention to the tension.”
1. Name your fears
2. Be humble, but trust your training
3. Listen - seek out the wisdom you need for this season. Who has already made this transition? What’s the Holy Spirit telling you?
