Paul clears up some confusion about the Holy Spirit – Acts 19:1-7

• These disciples are

disciples. John’s baptism of repentance looked forward to Jesus and the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

• Once they learned the Messiah John spoke about had come, they put their trust in Jesus and

the Holy Spirit.

Clearing up Holy Spirit Confusion for our lives

(1) What is the customary Christian experience in the Bible?

• Repentance – owning your sin and asking God for forgiveness.

• Faith in Jesus— placing your trust in Jesus…that his sacrifice paid for your sins and qualified you for heaven.

the gift of the Holy Spirit— God’s spirit sets up residence in you. The Spirit begins to minister to you in a variety of ways.

• Baptism— a public confession of your internal faith decision.

(2) What does the phrase “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” refer to?
The phrase Baptism of the Holy Spirit refers to one thing: The Holy Spirit inducting or including the believer into the body of Christ.

Being clear about the other works of the Holy Spirit in our lives

  1. The Holy Spirit’s work of : Planting new, eternal life in you.
  2. The of the Holy Spirit: Putting God’s stamp of ownership on you.
  3. The work of the Spirit: The ongoing presence of God in you, opening your eyes to God’s truth, desires, and will.
  4. The of the Holy Spirit: The empowerment to live out the Christian life and to fulfill our call to serve others. We must open ourselves and cooperate with this work.
