Title: The Responsibility of Christian Husbands
Text: Ephesians 5:21-33
Date: May 28, 2023
Introduction: Marriage is a divine institution! All of us who have been participants or spectators of a marriage ceremony have heard the following:
Happy and holy is the sacred hour when two devoted hearts are bound by the enchanting ties of matrimony. Marriage is an institution of divine appointment and is commended as honorable among all men. Marriage is God’s first institution for the welfare of the race. In the quiet setting of Eden, before the forbidden tree had yielded its fateful fruit or the tempter had touched the world, God saw that it was not good for the man to be alone. He made a helpmate suitable for him and established the rite of marriage while heavenly hosts witnessed the wonderful scene in reverence.
The contract of marriage was sanctioned and honored by the presence and power of Jesus at the marriage in Cana of Galilee and marked the beginning of His wondrous works. The writer of Hebrews said, “Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral” (13:4). The Apostle Paul said in Ephesians 5:31, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
In our text for today, Paul had more to say about marriage. He was addressing Christian husbands and wives. He had more to say to husbands than to wives. Paul set for them a very high standard. What did He say to them? What is Paul saying to us? The responsibility of Christian husbands includes what?
I. Christian husbands are to be men who love.
II. Christian husbands are to be men who lead.
III. Christian husbands are to be men who labor.
