About Hebrews 11
This chapter is one of the most well known chapters in all of the Bible and is often referred to as the Hall of Faith.

• The word faith (pistis) is used

times in this chapter.
• The phrase “by faith” is used times in this chapter.
• There are people commended for their faith who are listed in chronological order.

Audience | a Hellenistic Jewish community who had converted to Christianity (perhaps in Rome or Alexandria) and were now facing persecution. They were being tempted to turn back from Jesus and go back to the ways of the Old Covenant.

FAITH GIVES YOU THE ABILITY TO…

1. Resist

Pressure (23)
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.

2. Live Out Your True

(24-25a)
24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God

3.Flee from

(25b)
…than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.

4. To See What is Truly

(26-27)
26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.

5. To Trust in God’s

(28-29)
28 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them. 29 By faith the people crossed the Red Sea as on dry land, but the Egyptians, when they attempted to do the same, were drowned.

For Further Discussion

  1. What is one thing that has encouraged you this week? How has God blessed you?
  2. What are some key decisions that you have made that determined the direction of your life?
  3. Read Hebrews 11:23. Do we face cultural pressure today? If so, where? How should we respond?
  4. What does the Bible say is our true identity in Christ? How would answer someone who said, “I just don’t know who I am?”
  5. Pastor Brady said that the devil has a masters degree in marketing. How does the devil make sin seem more appealing than it is?
  6. What does the story of the passover teach us about God?
  7. What does the story of the parting of the Red Sea teach us about God?
