Moments Part 3 - A Moment of Obedience

December 15, 2024

  • It’s been said that life is not

by time. Life is measured in moments.

  • God creates, and

moments for each of us. Divine appointments of connection, encounter, and revelation.

  • There is so much

in stepping out in obedience. (John 13:17)

‘This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place. His mother, Mary, had promised Joseph to be his wife, but while she was still a virgin she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit. Her fiancé, Joseph, was a righteous man full of integrity and he didn’t want to disgrace her, but when he learned of her pregnancy he secretly planned to break the engagement. While he was still debating with himself about what to do, he fell asleep and had a supernatural dream. An angel from the Lord appeared to him and said, “Joseph, descendant of David, don’t hesitate to take Mary into your home as your wife, because the power of the Holy Spirit has conceived a child in her womb. She will give birth to a son and you are to name him ‘Savior’ [Jesus], for he is destined to give his life to save his people from their sins.” This happened to fulfill what the Lord had spoken through his prophet: Listen! A virgin will be pregnant, she will give birth to a Son, and he will be known as “Emmanuel,” which means in Hebrew, “God became one of us.” When Joseph woke from his dream, he did all that the angel of the Lord instructed him to do. He took Mary to be his wife, but they refrained from having sex until she gave birth to her firstborn son, whom they named “Jesus.”’ —Matthew 1:18-25 TPT

1) Obedience is difficult, but we have no idea what God can through one of obedience!

  • He didn’t realize that what looked like one of life’s absolutely lowest moments would be one of it’s greatest moments, and his obedience would be heroic.

When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. —Matthew 1:24 (NLT)

2) You don’t have to understand completely to obey .

  • Sometimes the word is so clear, the conviction is so strong, that we don’t need any more .

3) Obedience is our responsibility; the is God’s.

  • We don’t need to more. We need to do more with what we already know.

“For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” —Matthew 1:20b-21

  • Don’t worry when you face (or criticism) for your obedience to God!

4) Joseph’s obedience and submission to God made him a strong for his family.

’Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”’ —Matthew 2:13
